Our Neurological Services
Alzheimer’s and Dementia
At the Neurology Clinic we provide family support and counseling on the progression of Alzheimer’s and dementia. We inform the family of what to expect as the illness progresses in their loved one and the steps to take when caring for someone who suffers from these difficult diseases.
Movement Disorders
We see patients with Parkinson’s disease, which can be managed with the correct medications, physical therapy, and diet. We also see patients with tic disorder, which is treated the same way, with specific therapies, correct medications, physical therapy, and proper diet.
Headaches
Preventive treatment, imaging, changes in habits/lifestyle to alter headaches, and appropriate medications are the steps Dr. Prunty takes to relieve a patient’s headaches. If all therapies fail and the patient continues to have chronic migraines, she may recommend botox injections if appropriate.
Botox Treatments for Chronic Migraines
Dr. Prunty will prescribe botox treatments to patients with chronic migraines, which means the headaches must occur at least 15 times a month and last a minimum of 4 hours if left untreated. Patients receive their botox treatments at the Neurology Clinic. Sessions consist of 31 injections just under the skin, into the muscle fiber. The needles are similar in size to those used for acupuncture and are inserted across the forehead, temples, back of scalp, down the neck, and tops of shoulders. The procedure takes 10 minutes and lasts for 3 months.
Botox Cosmetic Treatments
Dr. Prunty performs expert BOTOX® cosmetic injections which can soften the appearance of frown lines and crow’s feet. Dr. Prunty is a board certified Neurologist with over 5 years experience in the clinical use of BOTOX®. She is trained in the cosmetic use of BOTOX®.
Epilepsy
Epilepsy is diagnosed with clinical information, MRI, and EEG. Once Dr. Prunty has diagnosed epilepsy, the patient is started on appropriate medications. Depending on the severity and the effectiveness of medications, Dr. Prunty may refer patients for epilepsy surgery.
Sleep Disorders
Often patients come to the Neurology Clinic with headache symptoms. Upon a complete evaluation Dr. Prunty may determine that their sleeping patterns are problematic and the source of headache pain. If that is the case she may refer them to a sleep disorder specialist.
Chronic Pain Management
Dr. Prunty does everything possible to help relieve a patient’s chronic pain, including nerve pain, muscular pain, neck and back pain, and head pain.
Multiple Sclerosis and Neuromuscular Diseases
When MS is detected through imaging, Dr. Prunty begins a treatment plan that works best for each individual patient, and which may include “platform” medications altering the disease process, counseling, and symptom treatment.
Sports-related Injury Prevention
Dr. Prunty specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of concussion, especially ones that occur from high-impact sports. She utilizes ImPACT (Immediate Post-Concussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing), the most scientifically validated computerized concussion evaluation system. Among other cutting-edge evaluation methods, “return to play and return to learn” protocols are utilized. ImPACT is the most reliable means of assessing when it is safe to return to a sport. Dr. Prunty is a credentialed ImPACT consultant.
